Cool things I found while wasting time online #15

This is a post of interesting things I’ve found online (and sometimes offline) in one week. These things may include among others: recipes, fandom stuff, interesting articles or artwork.

  • This article on the harmfulness of palm oil is pretty scary. I will try to make an effort to avoid it in the future. It’s also a good reminder that not everything that is plant based or sounds vegetarian/vegan, isn’t always safe for the environment. Of course it’s not  palm oil per se that is terrible, but the industry around it.
  • This strore  commerial with cats is super adorable 😀
  • I want this onigirazu maker D: Sure there are also fancy wooden ones available, but I couldn’t possible afford them. I really want to make these cool looking onigiri-sandwiches too.
  • These mermaid tights are pretty darn cool 😀
  • I really need to try and make these Steamed Scallion Buns. They look so good!
  • How cool are these kintsugi chopsticks rests?
  • A Captain AmericaHydra fanvideo that is super well put together. I really  like the music and the visual presentation.
  • Oh wow, I need this German brownie pie in my mouth right now!
  • The same goes for this delicious looking moist lemon cake.
  • This video about mosquitoes was very informative and also so damn creepy. I always thought the mosquitoes have one sting to drink our blood, but it’s actually SIX different needles. It’s kind of fascinating really, but I feel I’m going to be more creeped out the next time a mosquito attacks me.
  • Chicken in a creamy parmesan bacon sauce. Do I need to say more?

This is a post of interesting things I’ve found online (and sometimes offline) in one week. These things may include among others: recipes, fandom stuff, interesting articles or artwork.

  • A friend of mine shared this article, “Why we’re terrified of fanfiction,” on her facebook page and as someone, who has taken part of different fandoms and has written/read fanfiction for the bigger part of my life, I found this to be an interesting read. Why is fandom considered to be dangerous? Why is fanfiction frowned upon? This article tried to find some of the causes and give an overview of the ongoing discussions on the matters.
  • I really really really need to try this Roasted Asparagus Bacon Cauliflower Crusted Pizza. My only problem is that asparagus costs a fuckton 😦 I’d love to eat more asparagus, but I can only afford it as a rare treat really.
  • This short story “Ponies” was a really good listen. It delves into the issue of fitting in and the sacrifices one has to make to do so. It’s really disturbing how gruesome and terrible this story really is, considering the setting feels half-magical and innocent.
Summary of the story: If you want to be friends with The Other Girls, you’re going to have to give something up; this is the way it’s always been, as long as there have been Ponies.
  • I related a lot to these comic strips about How People Treat Mental Illness Vs. How They Treat Physical Illness.
  • How It Got In Your Mouth is my latest favorite podcast I listen to. Official summary: A food anthropology podcast that uncovers the history of the world’s best culinary creations. Every episode, hosted by food writers Katherine Spiers and Erin Mosbaugh, will focus on one particular dish: Katherine explains how, when, and why it was created, and Erin tells you where to get the best versions of it now.
I really like the historical aspect of the show that explains how and why different foods came to be and what led to the creation of different dishes. It’s really amazing how different the food culture used to be 50-100 years before.
  • Also, ramen doughnuts exists. Wow!

This is a post of interesting things I’ve found online (and sometimes offline) in one week. These things may include among others: recipes, fandom stuff, interesting articles or artwork.

  • Kadi sent me this cockroach trap test video. This is a promo for a live-action “Terra Formars” movie. It was hilarious though and quite painful to watch, especially when the sumo wrestler stepped up to do his part xD
  • This broccoli, olives and minced meat strudel sounds really good even though I don’t really like olives, but I imagine they could be quite good in this context.
  • I am not sure why I am craving for all these foods that scream cold!/winter! in their essence. I mean this mushroom pasta bake sounds like a perfect dish to eat on a cold late autumn evening, but I’d like to have it now that it’s getting stupidly warm outside.
  • Grownups always tell the children not to play with their food, so I always imagine that a bunch of frustrated children have now grown up and went: “Fuck this! I am an adult now so I do what I want!” There are so many incredible food artists out there who create all sorts of adorable and fantastic things out of food. Recently I discovered Peaceloving Pax on instagram, who creates the cutest characters for a snack and bento foods. Some of my favorites from her are:
These tiny rice super heroes including Captain America and my favourite Iron Man.
This Moomintroll made out of mashed potatoes.
These cute sleeping bunny and fox rice balls.
  • I can’t say I am much into knives, swords and the like in general, and even though I find blacksmiths and their craft fascinating, I wouldn’t really go out looking for videos to see them working. However, there is a group of blacksmiths (and other supporting artists) who recreate famous weaponry out of video games, movies, anime etc. To me this is a lot more fascinating to watch than simply observing a blacksmith forge a random sword, because they are creating something that already has a meaning for me. Be it Loki’s Chitauri Staff or Pyramidhead’s Giant Knife, the work that goes into these is simply incredible. This time they made the Vorpal Blade from the game “Alice: Madness Returns” and wow was that interesting!
  • Okay, I have not read a single Spider-Gwen comic, but I really like the idea of Spider-Gwen and I like the way she looks in her costume. So I want this Spider-Gwen mug just because.
  • I really loved the anime “Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Sōma” and whilst it was already super funny and ridiculous in it’s anime format, then the live-action version is even nuttier xD Good stuff for a few hearty laughs for sure 😛
  • Incredible Ant-Man cosplay by a group who creates free cosplay atributes for disabled children. This is really fantastic and also a reminder that cosplay really is for everyone regardless of their sex, age, appearance or physical capabilities. Maybe one day I will still give cosplay a try.
  • There is an entire channel dedicated to creating miniature toy foods and accessories and it’s pretty incredible if you ask me. I wasted hours watching these videos last week. Here is an example of miniature instant cup noodles being created. Just wow!

This is a post of interesting things I’ve found online (and sometimes offline) in one week. These things may include among others: recipes, fandom stuff, interesting articles or artwork.

  • The Beauty of Being a Misfit” – A TED talk about people who don’t always fit in, who are afraid to accept things even when they are offered to them on a silver platter… people who struggle with their failures, with being and feeling different than the society tells them they should be and feel. This talk made me feel hopeful that all is not yet lost for me, that maybe I’ll still get to where I wish to be.
  • http://zty.pe/ – This is a pretty cool typing game. I’ve been rather addicted to it the past week xD
  • A Marvel cross-over comic book with Tsum Tsum’s? :O This is an enough of a silly idea that I just might want to read it. On a slightly different note, I finally saw some Tsum Tsum’s on sale in Estonia, but they were just generic Disney ones like Mickey Mouse and Daisy Duck etc. I doubt the Marvel ones ever reach over here.

This is a post of interesting things I’ve found online (and sometimes offline) in one week. These things may include among others: recipes, fandom stuff, interesting articles or artwork.

  • What if  countries in Europe had their own Captain just like Captain America, what would they be like and what values would they convey? This is a pretty funny skit of it :p
  • These Mexican meatloaf meatballs sound so good. Someone come and make these for me as I don’t feel like cooking, but I sure feel like eating.
  • I’ve never really been into competitive eating, but there have been a couple of competitive eaters whom I’ve really liked for whatever reason. I really loved Gal Sone, a Japanese competetive eater, who was just so adorable and it was mindboggling to me how such a tiny girl could fit so much food in her :p Some time ago I stumbled upon Matt Stonie, who has his own youtube channel where he eats huge quantities of food as quickly as possible. I’m not even sure why I am so fascinated about this, but it’s amazing xD
For an example, here he is eating a giant bowl of chili:

And then he chomps down 200 Peeps. Holy wow, that is a lot of sugar!:

  • This Garlic Spinach in Chicken Broth sounds so delicious. I’m not sure where I would get proper spinach however as I’ve only seen baby spinach sold in grocery stores around here…
  • This is my new favorite instagram account. These are characters from the movie The Grudge (or Ju-On in Japanese), the angry ghost Kayako and her dead son Toshio, having daily family adventures. This is exactly what I imagine these two are up to when they have no poor unsuspecting soul to torment.

  • Metal Kitchen #3: Atreyu Makes Spaghetti and Meatballs with Linzey Rae. This is my kind of cooking show xD
  • A mini-documentary thingy about Japanese plastic foods. When I was in Japan for the first time, I thought it was real food on the windows of restaurants. I believed that they sprayed the food with some sort of lacquer to make it look so solid, shiny and pretty. I was super surprised when I was finally told that it was in fact plastic. Amazing how it’s made:
  • Potato chips flavored cola exists. I shouldn’t even be surprised.
  • I found more Deadpool inspired merchandise I want:
    1) A Mercenary Time red tanktop.
    2) Too Kawaii to Live, Too Sugoi to Die white tanktop.
    3) Negasonican Do It! black tanktop.
    4) This Deadpool black hoodie.
Someone get these for my birthday?
  • I really liked this TED talk on procrastination. Yeah that’s my life basically :/
  • I also liked this animated video explaining the Marvel Civil War comic storyline. That’s some crazy plot bunnies right there if you ask me xD I hope the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War” movie will be less wack, but awesome still. Although, I am still NOT into the whole idea of a Civil War… they should have made at least 2 more Avengers movies before all of this trying to off each other crap. I wanted more Avengers bonding and hanging out at the Avengers tower dammit.
  • A cross-over fanfiction of “The Avengers” and “The Hunger Games” called “Five Avengers who were Hunger Games Champions (and one who wasn’t)”. I sometimes like fanfiction where you take characters from one universe and put them in another to see how they would do in a completely different situation whilst remaining kind of their old selves. Really well put together this one and the ending made me laugh so damn hard xD
  • This artist makes amazing fantastic porcelain dolls. I usually find porcelain dolls to be really creepy, but I really wouldn’t mind some of these beautiful girls around. I especially adored The Shape Shifter and Kia because I am a sucker for redheads.
  • Asparagus Pastry Straws. Oh the stars, what a simple and delicious sounding idea. I need to make these.

Cool things I found while wasting time online #1

So this is a bit of a rip-off from so many blogs around, but I thought it’s a fun idea to have a weekly post about interesting things I stumble upon online, because why not? Maybe I’ll even manage to attract some new online friends with similar interests like that :p *wishful thinking*

Anyway, these posts will contain anything I find noteworthy in one week. It can be anything from fandom stuff to recipes and crazy news articles. I think I will be making these posts on Mondays.

  • This Deadpool animated movie musical. It’s kind of adorable, but somewhat spoilery, so if you have not seen the movie and don’t want minor spoilers, don’t watch it. The portrayal of Colossus isn’t very accurate in the parody and that annoyed me a bit, but otherwise it’s great 😀
  • These two Deadpool related artworks on Etsy that I will buy as a reward for myself when I manage to finish my graduation paper:
    * The Spideypool one I imagine as a part of my future kitchen; It’ll be perfect for it no matter if I even have a proper kitchen in the future. If I only have a stove in the bathroom corner as a kitchen, I want that picture there somewhere.
    * And this one is just really cool and I want it.
  • Ever thought of adding cocoa powder to noodles? Neither have I, but apparently it’s a thing in Hungary.
  • Rage yoga exists. I would love to give this one a try for sure xD
  • I want to make and devour these sheet pan hash browns so much. I need to make this.
  • This is not an online thing, but I also found that on my bed last week:

 Loki is a burrow animal.

Happy Deadpool Day!… 14. February 2016

Cookies with gingerbread spice and chocolate filling + a cup of black tea

A fried egg and some onigiri with wakame, different seeds and soy sauce

Beef tacos for dinner

So yummy and so messy to eat xD

Kettle Chips sea salt and crushed black pepper potato chips

I had an awesome Valentine’s Day. Well kind of :p We did nothing most of the day and then went to see the “Deadpool” movie in the evening. I loved it! I haven’t seen anything this disgusting-romantic in a long time xD I’d say it’s a perfect date movie- perfectly funny and dirty and sweet and a blast. I want to see it again. I teared up a bit right at the beginning of the movie during the intro scene, because it looked fantastic and the captions were hilarious, but at the same moment I remembered I’m about to watch a movie where someone will be terminally ill and will probably get tortured in hideous ways… it was weird, I’m weird.

I was super hyped and excited after the movie, but my biology decided it shall be that time of the month for Valentine’s, so nothing I could do to blow of the excitement steam… except eat tacos xD Tacos were good too, I guess :p

Hope you had a good Valentine’s Day no matter if you celebrate it as a romantic holiday or a friendship holiday. Or if you don’t celebrate it at all, I hope you just had a good day.

 I know I did :p
