Eesti Vabaõhumuuseum

Last Saturday I went to the Estonian Open Air Museum with a few of my friends to very belatedly celebrate my birthday (that was back in April). Since I fell ill almost right after my birthday, I didn’t have the time nor the will to celebrate, so I did some late celebrating now when I am healthy again. We did a lot of walking around enjoying the historical houses and other exhibits and had a plentiful picnic on the seaside with a variety of foods that everyone had brought along.

The Estonian Open Air Museum is a fantastic place. It has houses (actual old houses taken to pieces and reassembled in the museum) from different parts of Estonia, showing the living conditions and lifestyles of people across history. One would think that a tiny country like Estonia would have mostly similar architecture and living conditions across, but the fact is that people in different areas had quite different lifestyles and living conditions. It was super interesting to peek through windows and doorways into history.

A kitchen of an old school house.

In a colonial store.

Dried mushrooms.

A friendly neighbourhood goat 😀

A sleepy neighbourhood cat 😀

A spinning wheel at the window.

I would live here.

Here not so much.

Is she asleep or dead?

Wooden toys.

Bliss.

Family photos.

A doll.

Sweets and other goodies.

Country view.

Unwillingly sharing all our food with wasps.

Only the sick and the dead lie down to sleep.

This looks like the scarecrow from “Howl’s Moving Castle.”

A fence.

Windmills.

A bit of colour.

Wedding garb.

Who left the gate open?

The wasps seemed to enjoy the kvass.

Bottoms up!

Who lives there?

An old smithy.

A buckwheat plant! My mind was blown. I had never actually seen buckwheat growing before.

Is this ripe buckwheat or over ripened and useless buckwheat? Hmmmmm…

Anyhow, I had a fantastic day with my friends 😀 Thank you, everyone who spent the day with me and thank you for all the silly jokes!
