Lovely birthday… 9. April 2017

It was my birthday 😀 I am now level 31. It was also my little brother’s birthday, he turned 10.

For breakfast, I had half a pack of these cherries in chocolate.

Then my boyfriend and I went to a Japanese restaurant called YUI for lunch. We arrived about 10 minutes before they were officially open, because we messed up and looked up the opening hours for Saturday instead of Sunday. Oops. However, the waiting staff was super nice and didn’t send us back out of the door 😀

 My lovely lunch date ♥

We ordered a lot of food! xD

First we shared some tempura (battered and deep-fried seafood/vegetables), which I must say is the best you can get in Tallinn as far as I am concerned. There was tempura prawns, salmon and assorted veggies with matcha and curry salt.

Then we shared these tuna-mayo maki rolls.

Prawn creamy croquettes which were oh so creamy and tasty!

 Miso soup

I had a tonkatsu o-bentou (fried pork lunchbox meal), which had rice with more tempura, wakame salad, breaded pork cutlet and a couple of sushi bites.

Look how happy this food made me ;D

A taiyaki (fish shaped cake with sweet bean filling) with honey and ice cream. Never did I imagine I could one day eat taiyaki in Estonia. It’s like a dream come true.

Boyfriend had tofu blancmange with matcha ice-cream as a dessert.

Yui was a great. The atmosphere was lovely, the service swift and polite, and the food delicious. The tastes were so nostalgic and made me miss Japan 😦

We took a hour long walk in Kadiroru park and the seaside after lunch.

 Birdies

 A pretty swan

 Mr. Spock

Later in the evening we went bowling with my family and a bunch of my brother’s friends. This was also fun 😀

 Bowling-oni

 Having a celebratory drink

I had a great birthday for sure 😀

Junkfood kind of day… 22. March 2017

Fried potatoes, sausage sandwiches and marinated cucumber.

Kadi came to visit and she brought green tea cake and cookies from Killuke Kooki 😀 We had them with some peppermint tea. That cake was so so so good!

Had about 1,5 bottles of beer… maybe a bit more.

We had fun assembling some Japanese DIY candy kits. This one was called “Nyokonyoko Kororon” or as we called it “creepy candy wormies” xD The candy tasted weird and I didn’t like it much. It was fun to make though :p

This is a short vid of how the wormies were made:

Sour cream and onion senbei that was spot on with the beer

This candy kit was “Kurabete Neruneru”. The green goo was melon flavoured and the yellow one was pineapple flavoured. We both really liked the pineapple taste.

Poppin’Cookin’ “Tanoshii Raamenya-san” aka “Fun Ramen Restaurant” ;D This was epic fun to make. It actually looked like real ramen and gyoza xD The gyoza tasted really nice too, the ramen had a weird texture, but didn’t taste bad.

 Chocolate ice cream break

Soy flavoured senbei that also went great with the beer

Tasty chickpea soup with feta cheese and assorted nuts and seeds. I followed this recipe to make the soup.

I had a really lovely and fun day with Kadi. The DIY candy kits were hilarious to assemble and after we were done with these, we just chilled with some beer and chattered away about all sorts of nonsense ♥

Most of the DIY candy was left for my boyfriend xD He appreciated it and ate them all without complaint when he got off work xD

Too much rice and violence in films… 9. February 2017

 Fried potatoes

Pistachio and Macarons ice cream that was delicious

Rice with ham and soy sauce

Some meat pastries I shared with my boyfriend; rice with tuna and Chinese cabbage. Also, had a cup of coffee.

We watched “John Wick” in the evening, because boyfriend has been excited about the sequel and I hadn’t seen the first one yet. I was a bit sceptical about whether I could stomach the movie as it is quite violent, but it was alright. I really liked the movie a lot. There is something really cool about the idea of an assassin’s reputation being so good that not even the police dare to fuck with him xD

We have also been watching the first season of “Westworld,” which I enjoy a lot despite it being bloodier than I am usually comfortable with when it comes to people gutting each other.

It’s weird with me and violence in movies. Some of my favourite ever movies are quite violent. Take for instance “Alien” (and the sequels). It’s a rather violent movie with body horror elements, but I don’t mind it all that much. I’ve come to the realisation that violence doesn’t bother me as much when it takes place in a fantasy setting. It perhaps doesn’t feel as real when it’s an orc gutting a man or a bunch of elves slashing at each other or some monster hibernating in a human corpse, but when it’s two guys in a “realistic” (be it the streets of New York or the imaginary wild west space in “Westworld” even) setting shooting or beating each other, then somehow to me it feels more real and it’s harder for me to watch. Of course, it also depends how graphicly the violence is shown I guess. I twitched and groaned in several places during both “John Wick” and “Westworld” where knives were used in a fight in the former or sawing off an android’s head in the latter.

Anyhow, what’s your favourite movies and how do you feel about graphic violence in movies?

You’re hot and you’re cold… 25. January 2017

Hot and sour soup with shrimp and mushrooms @ Chopsticks. I was feeling so cold and bordering ill in the morning that I wanted something warm and spicy to eat. This soup did the trick, I felt so much better afterwards.

And of course, right after that, I wanted some ice cream xD That chocolate ice cream hit the spot too.

A sloppy joe with beef chili; some black rice and salad

I baked my first ever loaf of white bread and it turned out better than I expected for a first try 😀 I had a couple of slices of my handiwork with butter and honey + some chamomile tea.

Sometimes days like this happen… 9. January 2017

An egg sandwich and rice cereal with milk

Ramen noodles in chicken broth with sour cream and sesame seeds

 Chocolate ice cream

Vanilla and chocolate ice cream with caramel

It was just one of those days, you know, where things simply go wrong. I didn’t get anything done, I hurt my toe badly (it’s now bandaged up and hurting still), I had a stomach ache and late in the evening it turned out I had forgotten to stock up on birth control pills. I was pretty glad when the day was finally over and I could go to sleep.

A perk in the day was my boyfriend who brought me two pots of ice cream, so I had ice cream for dinner. Take that, bad day!

TV Tower and ilness… 26-27. Dec 2016

26. December

Coffee, scrambled eggs, potato salad, some cucumber

 Napoleon’s cake and coffee

Bouillabaisse @ Teletorn Restaurant. I’ve never had bouillabaisse before, but I always thought it was a seafood stew soup with more seafood in it. It was still good, but not what I expected. The piece of crab on top of it was really good.

Sous vide roasted saddle of lamb, deep-fried thymus, vegetable gratin, baby vegetables and rosemary sauce. The roasted thymus had a very weird texture xD

 Daim McFlurry

We visited the Estonian TV Tower in the evening and had dinner in their restaurant. The view from 175m to the evening Tallinn was beautiful. The restaurant meal was probably one of the most expensive meals I’ve ever had and it all was… okay. I mean, the food was good, but nothing special. I always think that if after a meal, I can only think how good everything was, the meal was probably worth the money, but if afterwards I can only think how expensive everything was, then the food probably wasn’t worth the price. So, I doubt I ever want to go back to that restaurant. It was however still an interesting experience.

27. December

Oat bran porridge with butter and raspberry jam, kefir bread with chocolate spread, coffee

Pork schnitzels, fried potatoes with eggs, some cucumber and avocado salad

I caught a cold. Probably caught the bug from my boyfriend who started showing symptoms of illness already during Yule. Ugh, sucks so much.
