The zoo and an escape room… 20. September 2016

Oatmeal porridge with honey and a cup of coffee.

Golden fried shrimp (with potato breading and sweet & spicy sauce) @ Mack Bar-B-Que. These were so yummy!

Damnation burger (mozzarella, fiery hot mayo, jalapeno salsa, nachos, coleslaw). So juicy and deliciously spicy! I also had a delicious orange lemonade.,

Mulk’s porridge with chanterelle and pork sauce; some salad and buttered rye bread on the side.

We went to the zoo in the morning and ended up spending most of the day there. I keep forgetting how big Tallinn Zoo has become and how long it actually takes to walk through the entire place. I love the zoo though and I am always so happy to see how they are working over there to give all the animals better habitats. The place used to be a tiny terrible concrete box where all animals lived in small cages with no greenery around, but now it’s really becoming a beautiful place with hopefully happier animals.

 Food Time

One of the golden eagles took a particular interest in my boyfriend and chased him around in his cage. This was super peculiar!

The Scariest Carnivore of Them All. Yikes!

 All the Monkeys xD

Later in the evening we went to Escape Room. I’ve never been to an escape room before so I had really no idea what to expect. We tried out their “Prison Break” game where you had to, surprise-surprise, bust out of a prison in 60minutes. I am so glad I went there with smart people, because I couldn’t have figured out half of the puzzles myself xD I managed to open one code locked box, which was my only feat in the game… but it was super fun! We had about 8 minutes left on the timer when we got out. I want to go again 😀

We eventually crashed at our place where I cooked our guests some dinner. First time I managed a proper mulk’s porridge, so I think this all was a success 😀

How to exercise… 11. September 2016

 Coffee and an apple.

Chicken and jalapeno pizza. This was way too much bread and too little toppings.

 Tomato-beef stew with rice.

 Some chocolate.

There is an exercise at the BodyBalance class where you sit on the ground with your legs spread in front of you, stretch yourself forward and try to get your upper body down on the ground. It’s pretty difficult, because I don’t really bend at all. The instructor usually offers a couple of different variations on how to achieve the exercise and one for this one was the following: “You know, another way you could easily get your belly to the ground is just to eat lots more! A bigger belly will get you so much closer!” Lady, you’re funny xD

[recipe.] Potato Curry

Liia and Agu brought us some curry powder from Vietnam a few months ago and I thought it was about time I did something with it. I decided to try and whip up some potato curry with it and since the end result was pretty awesome, I decided to share the recipe 😀

  • 1,2 kg potatoes
  • A small piece of ginger (around 5cm)
  • 1 jalapeno pepper
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp of curry powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Juice from half a lemon
  • Some oil for cooking
  • 5dl of water (or more if you feel it’s needed)
  • Plain yoghurt and Indian bread for serving (optional)

Boil the potatoes and peel them once they have cooled down enough. Cut half of the potatoes into bite-sized pieces and set aside. Mash the other half of the potatoes thoroughly with a masher.

Next chop the chili and the ginger into almost a paste. I used a mezzaluna to do this, but you may probably use a food processor or any other method for this as well.

Heat some oil in a bigger pan and add the cumin seeds when the pan is hot. Saute the seeds until they start to brown. Some of the seeds may pop and jump out of the pan, so be careful not to burn yourself!

Next add in the chili and the ginger. Saute for a minute.

After that add the cut up potatoes with 5dl of water, mix well, bring it to boil and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.

Then add in the potato mash and simmer for another minute. If the curry feels too thick to your taste, add in more water.

Add in the curry powder, teaspoon of sugar, some salt to taste and squeeze in the lemon juice. Let it simmer again for a minute or so. And it’s done!

Serve the curry with a couple of spoonsful of plain yoghurt over it and with some Indian style bread. I tried making my own naan bread this time and it didn’t turn out very naan-ish, but it was still pretty nice with the curry 🙂

I hope you’ll enjoy!

Glorious beef burger… 31. October 2015

A slice of apple pie and a cup of coffee

A banana and a persimmon

Boyfriend was a saint and brought home dinner: a jalapeno beef burger and French fries from Diner. This was so bad for me and so good and spicy and hit the spot like whoa!

I woke up with a terrible headache and feeling weak. This illness sure is not willing to leave… I’ve finished all my medications, so I don’t really know what else to do other than to keep warm and drink tea. I think I need to see the doctor again next week. Perhaps she will have additional ideas what to do.

I was supposed to go help my mom rake her garden too that day, but I cancelled since I was feeling ill and ended up sleeping most of the day instead. Eugh.

A night out with an old friend… 13. August 2015

 Berry smoothie, coffee

Toast with cheese and mushroom ham

 Some pelmeni with sour cream

A chicken “burger” with green curry sauce and a Mint Julep @ FRANK.
I wouldn’t have personally called that “burger” a burger… it was a sandwich xD But it was good, despite that it was a tad bit tricky to eat.

Beer and French fries with dip @ Dubliner

More beer, another plate of French fries and then jalapeno poppers

Anna was visiting from Norway so we met up for some drinks and good times. We ended up bar hopping and I stayed out for way longer than I had originally planned to :p I also overindulged in beer and food, but I had such a great time, so doesn’t really matter :p

Age of Ultron… 12. May 2015

Scrambled eggs with bok choy and tomatoes; sandwich with smoked beef

After movie lunch with the boy and Miss K @ Diner. I like how the coffee refils are included in the price :p

 French fries with cheese

Jalapeno beef burger with an extra egg. So delish!

I was craving for some Coca Cola light

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” was an amazing movie! 8D

Home made pudding… 15. July 2013

I made some chocolate rice pudding 🙂 It turned out really good.

 Chocolate rice pudding, a banana

 Corn flakes with milk

 Kohukese jäätis (kohuke ice cream)

Spicy quinoa soup with black beans, tomato, avocado and sour cream

Junk food: different potato chips with guacamole dip and cloudy lemonade
