[what I ate.] 14-23. December 2018

Whoopsie! Holidays happened and I cut my finger and needed to get stitches and then I had some rough times at work, so this is why I fell behind with posting again. Welp, time to catch up 😀

14. December

Coffee, marzipan pastry.

Chicken curry.

Chicken curry and a coconut yoghurt drink. The drink was great and had actual pieces of coconut in it which was cool.

15. December – Escape Room

Chicken nugget wrap. Coffee.

Fried squid with dip at Noya. We crashed this restaurant after going to a Leonardo DaVinci inspired escape room. Most dishes we had were shared among all of us.

Mediocre beef tartar and super yummy salmon tartar with avocado.

Hubby ate a waguy “burger”. It was alright. Good beef served with lame bread.

I really liked the tempura mushrooms and white fish. The soup was a Nordic style “ramen” where noodles were replaced with strips of squid. The ramen concept was cool, but I only ate a few bites, because the entire thing was inedible salty. Both I and another girl sent these dishes back 😦

The kitchen sent us some tasty yellowtail tataki as an apology. That was a sweet gesture of them.

My replacement dish for the ramen was Nordic shrimp “tacos.” They were okay I guess, but I would in no way call these tacos xD

In general, Noya left me feeling a bit meh… there were some tasty treats and some failures, but in the end, I felt it was too pricey, especially considering that I was still kind of hungry after sharing all the food (as the restaurant concept suggested). Not worth all the hype I have been hearing about this place, sadly.

Puchitto Soda candies. An amusing treat. (I bought a computer pad 😀 Had to show it off, because I am so happy with my newfound ability to now comfortably read fanfiction in bed 😀 )

16. December

Porridge with butter and a ham sandwich.

A smoothie with bananas and blueberries.

In Estonia Valentine’s Day is actually known as Friend’s Day… 14. February 2018

One and a half semla. One was with red currant jam, the half one was with blueberry jam.

Veggie pasta with turmeric and some parmesan cheese.

A flourless dark chocolate cake. So heavenly!

More of the veggie pasta for dinner.

Long day at work, so no Valentine’s date. We did have a restaurant in mind, but turned out that the place closed about the same time I got off work so, meh…

Feeling better… 2. February 2018

Buckwheat porridge with bacon and a fried egg.

Coffee and a delicious semla from Killuke Kooki.

Miso soup and onigiri with black rice. I like how the added black rice dyed the white one all purple. It’s a very awesome shade.

Mjuk turmeric kombucha. It tasted nice and refreshing.

Freshly baked white bread with butter and honey, and a glass of milk.

I am feeling a lot better already. I still sleep a lot and take medicine, but the cold symptoms have toned down quite noticeably. I even had some leftover energy to bake some white bread and to take a hot bath in the evening.

[Recipe.] Lemony Zucchini Soup with Rice

This soup is amazingly creamy in texture with a hint of lemony sour taste and it goes might fine with some steamed rice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg of zucchini
  • Lemon zest from one lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 l chicken or vegetable bouillon (I used chicken, but I imagine veggie bouillon will do great too)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • Dill and parsley for seasoning
  • Oil for frying
  • Boiled or steamed rice for serving

How to:

  1. Cut the zucchini into smaller cubes and fry them in a bit of oil until they start emitting liquid.
  2. Transfer the zucchini with the liquid to your soup pot, add the lemon zest and lemon juice and stir it all together. Then add the stock and bring it to boil. Boil until the zucchini is nice and soft.
  3. Add in thinly sliced garlic, chopped dill and parsley, turmeric and boil for another minute. Then switch of the heat and blend the soup until no zucchini chunks remain.
  4. You may also add some salt or pepper to taste, but I personally found it unnecessary.
  5. Serve together with boiled or steamed rice.

 Enjoy!

Black rice… 24. January 2017

Buckwheat porridge and a couple of boiled eggs.

Boyfriend brought home these paleo “health shots” or whatnots from work. Fireball was with turmeric, orange, ginger, lemon, cayenne pepper and it tasted like a nice peppery juice. Chilitrim was with apple, lemon, honey, pure chili juice and it burnt my mouth badly. I think it tasted okay, it just hurt a lot to drink.
Whilst I liked the taste of fireball, I didn’t particularly like the entire concept of these juice shots mainly because selling 60ml juice in a plastic bottle (that has no return mark on them) feels so wasteful. Also, I’m not sure how much these would cost in a store, but I imagine them being pricey. I would probably drink them if offered somewhere for free, but I doubt I’ll ever buy them.
Drinking these juice shots however made me miss having a juicer.

Beef chili with black rice and salad. First time eating black rice. Loved the taste and texture and was so surprised on how filling it was compared to white rice.
